Charnwood Club Championships

Chris Mears won the highly prestigious Charnwood Tennis Club men’s singles title for the eighth time, defeating Ashton Zaranyika on Sunday 3rd September. Neither player dropped a set en route to the final, and there was little to choose between the pair as Mears took the opening set (6-2) before 18-year old Zaranyika levelled up by winning the second set (6-2). The fabulous, high quality match was decided on a Match Tie-Break and Mears called on his vast wealth of experience to win this 10-5 and take the title.

The men’s plate final was also decided by a Match Tie-Break, with James Carter ultimately defeating Jack Hallam 6-2, 6-7, 0-4

The morning tennis was played in group formats followed by knock out play in the afternoon.

Following some excellent, high standard tennis the victors were,:-

Ladies' Doubles:-  Emily Rodbourne and Hanna Hunter.

Mens' Doubles:-    Jack Phillips and Ashton Zaranyika

Charnwood Tennis Club hosted their prestigious Ladies singles club championship on Friday night (15th September).

Hannah Holmes was crowned as their champion following a victory over Caroline King, the first game was close with ten deuces but Holmes went on to win by two sets to love on the club's clay courts.

It was a fabulous achievement by Holmes but great credit must also be given to King who pushed her opponent with some fine tennis and variety from her left handed serve.
