AXBRIDGE TRIUMPH IN SCHOOL’S TENNIS COMPETITION

Axbridge school were triumphant winners in the recent Cheddar Valley First School’s competition held at Cheddar Tennis Club.

Mixed teams of boys and girls some of whom were new to tennis, were entered from Axbridge, Cheddar, Draycott and Rodney Stoke, Shipham and Weare First Schools and the Sharpham Road courts buzzed with excitement and enthusiasm as 64 children competed for the coveted winners shield.

Playing mini red ball tennis in teams of four, fast flowing games over several rounds culminated in a hard fought and nail biting final between Axbridge A and Draycott and Rodney Stoke teams. Axbridge (pictured above) emerged as the eventual winners by a margin of a single point.

The fun filled afternoon was well supported by parents and teachers and was organised by Cheddar Club’s coach Stephen Pearce with umpiring help from Kings of Wessex pupils and tennis club members.

Cheddar tennis club has an excellent long-standing relationship with local schools and Sam Kemp, the South West Regional Competition coordinator was in attendance and complimented Stephen on running such a fantastic competition.
