Welcome to the Cocks and Hens Club Junior program. The Cocks and Hens club is one of the oldest in the world with a long history of developing junior tennis players. Our ethos is important to us and we aim to develop sophisticated young tennis players in a fun, supportive and competitive environment. We are delighted that we returned to Newnham after a gap of 50 years with our superb clubhouse and eight courts – four macadam and four Tiger Turf Pro synthetic turf, all of which are now floodlit. Over the course of a year we run the full range of mini and full pressure yellow (normal) ball tennis coaching on these courts to support the development of your child.

Starting at Mini Red (age 5-8) we play with soft balls on small courts and nets with the emphasis being on fun and the beginnings of technique development. Mini Orange is the next stage (ages 8-9) and is played with soft balls on a bigger, wider but not full size court. It aims to continue technique development while introducing movement and tactics.  Mini green is for 10 year olds and is played on a full size court with slightly softer balls than normal full pressure yellow balls. This stage transitions the player to full size court movement, tactics and stroke development. The next stage is full pressure yellow normal ball tennis coaching offered through age appropriate classes.

The clubs reputation as a development centre hinges both on the quality of its coaching and its link to the junior club teams, who have been national champions in the recent past. Team squad selection begins at age 10 and runs through the full junior age groups. We aim with the teams to create sophisticated tactical and analytical tennis players who are supported in their enjoyment of competitive tennis.
