Tennis coaching review for Drummond 2025
I am delighted to be writing this report, sharing the success of Tennis with Sophie over 2025. From teams to tournaments, mini red success to Wimbledon stars – it’s an all- inclusive coaching programme we are very proud of.
One of the most exciting achievements in 2025 was two of our juniors who play at both Drummond and ESC, won the U18 road to Wimbledon and were given the opportunity to compete on the famous grass courts in August last year. I was, of course, at Wimbledon cheering them on.
These girls started with me age 9 and have grown into the players they are now by training with first orange then green balls and finally full compression balls. They came to the classes, the camps and practiced whenever they could get a court. This shows the need for clubs to encourage coaching and allocate court time to juniors as well as adult members – more about this in my coaching proposal for 2026!
In 2025 we entered 7 junior teams into the East of Scotland leagues – 2 more than the previous year – with huge success. 3 of our teams came top of their league and 2 others came in second. In the U14 boys league the top 4 players came from our Drummond/ESC team and the top 3 in the U12 team. This shows the strength of our coaching and the dedication of our players.
We ran 5 tournaments over the year – 4 on the last day of each week of the summer camps – and 1 parent/child tournament at the end of the season. These are great fun but all have a competitive element with the juniors striving to win a trophy or medal.
Much to the excitement of our young players and due to the success in the ESLTA leagues I am branching out and running a tennis camp in Portugal this year over the Easter break. This will act as a pre-season camp and I hope will enable some of our juniors to move into the adult leagues. I feel there needs to be a liaison between the junior leagues and the adult team captains – more in my proposal!
In addition to our junior coaching we also offer a comprehensive adult programme including cardio, technique and tactics. One of the highlights of 2025 was adding the Friday 4-5pm cardio class which was particularly popular with those who work traditional weekday hours. Much as the women’s second team was a huge success I feel there is room to add another couple of adult half day tournaments to encourage all abilities to start competing – again more on this in my proposal!
All that’s left to say is thank you for supporting my coaching team! My goal for 2026 is to continue enhancing Drummond’s appeal by maintaining a coaching programme which rivals any other club in Edinburgh!
