September newsletter including arrangements for winter club sessions

Thank you all for a great summer of tennis at Elms LTC. Sadly,  we are fast approaching the end of our grass court season and our last day of playing on our courts  will be the 23rd September.

Winter Tennis
Blackbrook Tennis Centre
From the 30th of September we will move onto the outdoor hardcourts at Blackbrook for our club sessions. We have booked courts on a Saturday afternoon 1-4pm (4 courts) and a Thursday evening 7-9pm (2 courts). The club sessions will be similar to the ones at Elms and all full members are welcome.
At both sessions we might be joined by members of Taunton Tennis Club. The courts have been paid for by the club and you will not need to pay anything for these sessions, but will need to bring along some tennis balls (they may be provided for you, but this is not guaranteed). To ensure we make best use of our money, we will assess the popularity of the Thursday evening session after 4 weeks and the Saturday afternoon session after 8 weeks.

Vivary and Cheddon Road tennis courts
The tennis courts at both these sites have been upgraded and can be booked by members of the public using Pay and Play (£6 per hour). The courts do not have floodlights unfortunately.  If you want to play on these courts and want other members of Elms LTC to join you, then you can continue to post messages on our WhatsApp group. You will need to pay for your courts yourselves and bring along your own tennis balls.

Last Tournament of the Season
We will holding our last tournament on September 10th. This is the Joan Jeremiah doubles tournament - a fun event where you will be randomly assigned to your doubles partners during the course of the afternoon. All full members are welcome to join in. Please can you sign up for the event on the noticeboard, and on the day, turn up at 2 o'clock ready to play. As usual, we would ask you to also bring along a plate of food to share.

Grass court maintenance
Thanks to all those who have helped out with the courts over the summer.  The work on the courts carries on after they close.
Please look out for shoutout for help towards the end of September and the rest of the season when we need to clear the courts of leaves and keep the grass cut. If you would like to know more please email Karuna at karuna@elmstennis.co.uk. '

Elms LTC Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Our AGM will be held on November 24th at 7pm in the clubhouse. A copy of the minutes and draft accounts will be sent out to all of you before the meeting. All members are invited to attend the AGM.

Kind regards,

Cathy  (Chair Elms LTC)
