Women’s 35 Inter-County Championships 2018
Leicestershire Ladies were on great form this year at the Women’s 35 Inter-County Championships in Eastbourne (3-5 August) as they battled through the heat at Devonshire Park to finish runners-up in Division 1. A superb effort from all members of the team – Anne Meredith (Captain), Claire Wynne, Alison Fleming, Lucy Croucher and Sue Boulter (reserve) resulted in a 3-0 win over 2017 Champions, Somerset, on the first day, followed by another 3-0 win over Devon the next day. The team was very narrowly beaten 2-1 by South Wales on the final day. Claire played a great singles against the very tough Linda Jones, only just losing out in a 3rd set tie-break. Alison and Lucy levelled the match with a very impressive and convincing win over doubles pair Ellen Jones and Becca Strelzyn. Anne then played a very close and tense final singles rubber against Julie Sinkins, eventually losing 10-8 in the 3rd set tie-break. It was a very hot and exciting weekend, with great tennis and a final position of which Leics Ladies should be very proud.
