Tutt beats Cox in Leicester's International Seniors' Tennis final.

Tutt beats Cox in Leicester's international seniors' tennis final.

The Leicestershire club hosted its fourth International Tennis Federation's seniors' tournament, attracting a record entry and again seeing local players much to the fore.

Veteran players from all over the world descended on the city club with players from as far afield as New Zealand, Sweden, South Africa and Singapore.

Tournament director, Colin Ayling, commented 'the tournament has grown year on year with numbers in some draws being double those of only a couple of years back and the ITF have rewarded the success of the event by upgrading it from Grade 5 to Grade 3. The Leicestershire club facilities are second to none, enhanced over the winter with the addition of six more recently laid artificial clay courts giving a total of eleven of the same surface, including the main show courts.

Much interest centred on the over 70 men's singles final which saw Leicestershire's Richard Tutt in irrepressible form against his long time friend and doubles partner, Mark Cox. Cox, who is county tennis president, had some consolation, later teaming up with Tutt to take the over 65 doubles final.

Local winners were as follows:-

Gary Howard and Dennis Archer, men's over 55 doubles

Shirley Fox, ladies' over 55 singles

Gary Howard and Sara Butler, over 45 mixed doubles

Richard Tutt , over 70 men's singles+

Richard Tutt and Mark Cox, over 65 men's doubles
