WtC vs Wellington School Annual Match 2015

In their annual match, playing in perfect tennis conditions, Wellington Tennis Club Ladies' and Men's teams defeated Wellington School Girls' and Boys' teams respectively in fine style with the Ladies losing only 3 sets out of 9 and the Men losing only 1.
Mother and daughter pairing, Philippa and Elizabeth Deem only lost 3 games in 3 sets whilst Janet Dobson and Sue Rackley  closed out a tough set second set, 7-5, against second seeds Sophie and Emma, therefore winning all their sets, too. The final pairing, Claire Hamilton and new member Jane Tatum, who had never played together before, improved match on match narrowly losing their final set 4-6. This was the second consecutive year Wellington Tennis Club had won after many years losing to the teenagers.
In contrast, it was good to have a Boys' team to play against again and the Wellington Men retained their trophy. Top seeds Carl Puzey and Geoff Lee had varied matches winning a tie-break, losing one set 4-6 but winning another 6-0. Second seeds, Stan Rogers and John Paltridge,  were very consistent and won all 3 sets as did Simon Cross and Charles St George losing only 5 games in total.
All in all Wellington School were perfect hosts providing tasty refreshments and an excellent  sporting attitude and everyone enjoyed their matches.  The Club has close links with the school now as their coach Dan Sizer provides an after school tennis club at Wellington Prep as well as providing one to one coaching in the Senior school. Sue Rackley, Chair, adds, "In the future I hope WTC can liaise even more closely to organise friendly matches for the young  players throughout the year  to keep them keen. Thank you to Ann Bazely for helping to organise this enjoyable annual fixture."  Wellington Tennis Club brought a very successful summer season to a close with their Finals' Day on a day that produced excellent tennis as well as superb weather. This year, many new names will be engraved on the cups as well as established names of players who retained their titles.
