Charnwood hold annual Tennis Charity Day

Charnwood Tennis Club held their annual Charity Tennis Day on Friday 8 March at their base off Nanpantan Road.

The Charity Tennis Day has been running for more than 20 years with a different charity selected each time.

This year's edition was to raise funds for Neuroendocrine Cancer research. Long-time organiser and club legend Caroline Wilkinson recently lost a close friend to this illness and was delighted that this hugely successful event raised £1,115  for this fabulous cause.

Neuroendocrine tumors are cancers that begin in specialized cells called neuroendocrine cells.

These tumors are rare and can occur anywhere in the body usually the lungs, appendix, small intestine, rectum and pancreas. Survival rates vary depending on the part of the body effected.

The fundraising event involved 29 ladies from the club playing six rounds of doubles matches.

Each round lasted twenty minutes and after each round players “mixed in” to play with other partners and against different opponents. The overall victor being the player winning most games.

Following almost three hours of excellent tennis and a splendid lunch, the results were:

  • Winner: Nettie Ellis
  • 2nd: Liz Twitchell
  • 3rd = Juliet Youngs & Lisa Elahma
