Bruce Tarran new Head Coach

 My name is Bruce Tarran. I have just been appointed the new Head Coach at Medbourne Tennis Club. I am looking forward to this very much! It will be a pleasure getting to know members and new pupils at Medbourne.

For the past 10 years I have been Head Coach at The Leicestershire LTC. I’ve played or coached tennis for most of my life.  I have always played County tennis, as a junior, senior and vet. I’m also an LTA Licensed Level 5 MPC Coach with wide experience of coaching adults and juniors of all ages and standards up to National level. I would like to develop a varied adult and junior program at Medbourne, from 4 year old beginners upwards.

To get things underway I am starting with a Squad Junior coaching programme on Sunday mornings and Thursdays after school, starting Thursday 26th January and Sunday 29th January. Tell your friends, tell your relations! All are welcome, members and non-members, beginners to advanced, from 4 to 15 years old. I will have Charlotte Clarke assisting me in the junior squads. Charlotte is a strong junior county player who started her own coaching with me and lives close to Medbourne, off next year to America on a tennis scholarship. Charlotte is an excellent role model for young juniors and will help make the sessions even better.

Any juniors who play (or would like to play!) tennis please come along when you can on Sunday or Thursday and the first session will be free. After that each session will cost just £5, pay on the day. I invite everyone to come along and have a go. I will do my best to make it fun, and useful.

I am also delivering a weekly Adult team standard squad on Mondays, 7pm to 8.30pm. This will begin on Monday 23rd January. The cost is £8, pay on the day, for the 90 minute session. The sessions will feature drills, tactical tips and doubles play. I hope that they will be challenging and fun! I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday 23rd.

I have an interest in tennis history, Another Leicestershire village is Thorpe Satchville where George and Blanche Hillyard lived from 1896 to 1925. Blanche was Wimbledon Champion six times, George an Olympic Doubles Champion. Together they hosted the top tennis players of their day from right across the world, on their perfect courts in their mansion home at Thorpe Satchville. George Hillyard was also Wimbledon Secretary for many years. I wrote a hardback book about it with loads of original photos called “George Hillyard – the Man who moved Wimbledon” with a preface by Mark Cox.
