Charnwood Tennis Club's men's second team attempted to retain their unbeaten record in the County Winter Doubles League on Sunday at home to Roundhill 1.
Charnwood featured the rapidly improving Neil Ruikar alongside Kevin Leck, with captain Jack Hallam partnering heavy-hitting newcomer Dan Smith.
Roundhill were a little below strength, but did have the determined and tricky Rizvan Sarang, who is always a worthy opponent.
In the first round, both Charnwood pairs cruised to a comfortable victory for the loss of one game. Swapping opponents for the second round, Leck and Ruikar overcame a slightly slow start to defeat the first pair, Anand Rughani and Bhagirath Khunti, 6-2, 6-1.
Hallam and Smith started well again, taking the first set against Sarang and partner 6-1, before Roundhill eventually took the second set 6-3 to provide them with some consolation.
Nonetheless, a 7-1 win will help Charnwood in their push for promotion from Division 3A.
