Charnwood men's first team won their first match in Group 1A of the Leicestershire Men’s winter league doubles at home against Kibworth II on Sunday 29th September.
In this format, each team has two pairs, who play one another over two sets of tennis.
In windy conditions which made serving difficult, Steve Mears and captain Chris Cottrell won their first match for Charnwood 6-2, 6-2 before drawing their second match 6-4, 4-6, which was a fair result in a closely fought encounter.
Meanwhile, Charnwood’s second team captain Jack Hallam filled in and played alongside Neil Ruikar.
They pushed Kibworth’s first pair close in the first set, before being edged out 5-7, 2-6.
But they bounced back to win their second match 6-4, 6-2, securing an overall victory for Charnwood by 2.5 to 1.5.
