Another National League thriller for Charnwood's men

There was more drama for Charnwood in the 2024 National League as the men's team found themselves in their second tie break shoot out in two matches.

Having edged out Boston in their opening match of the season last month, captain Steve Mears' team travelled to Boston for their second game of the season.

James Ison continued his perfect start to the season with singles victory, and doubles victory alongside Chris Mears, while Chris also won his singles rubber in straight sets.

But Grantham showed impressive strength in depth to take the tie to a decider, with Steve Mears and Ashton Zaranyika losing out in their singles, and doubles.

After winning their shoot out in match day one, lightning didn't strike twice for Charnwood, as they settled for the narrowest of defeats.

Tough trip to Edgbaston Priory for Charnwood women

Charnwood's women's team had also won their opening match of the season, but faced a difficult second match on paper, against Midlands giants Edgbaston Priory.

Host of the annual Birmingham Classic on the WTA Tour, Priory attract some of the finest players in the country, and showed their might with a 12-0 win over the Charnwood quartet of Emily Rodbourne, Isabella Cockrell, Holly Cheeseman and Bea Cooper.
