On 30 August, in excellent weather for both playing and spectating, we had our traditional President’s Day and the first since Paul Dixon took charge. The format is a friendly doubles tournament with a running handicap, designed to encourage close matches. It is a Round Robin affair with short encounters and the players had a busy afternoon.
Paul presented prizes at the end of the afternoon, having to interrupt a delicious tea with contributions from many, including, as traditional now, Pimm’s, curtesy of Ros Johnson.
As well as thanks to Paul for hosting, we are grateful to Sean for the preparation towards and running of the event itself, made by him to look easier than it is!
In the first picture are most of the attendees. Paul, the president, is standing behind the lady in pink, Chris Cail, herself a former president. Sean is missing because he took the photo.
Even in a fun tournament there are winners. The second photo shows left to right and demonstrating the ethos of the day and the club are winners, Doug Smith, a new member, and Sue Trousdale, a very successful player for us over the years, and the runners up, Hamish Bredin, who has recently taken over the role of club secretary and Daisy Rutter, 15 years and our current Ladies singles champion.
