Junior Coaching

  • As an LTA registered venue HTC has to demonstrate each year that it meets strict standards for management, coaching, facilities and regulatory procedures.
  • We have two welfare officers and details of their roles and responsibilities can be found on the dedicated website safeguarding page - go to here.
  • Our coaching programme is comprehensive and varied to suit all members' requirements.

Mini-Tots & Minis:

This is the foundation of our coaching programme and our two mini-courts provide the ideal environment for children age 3 and upwards to start their tennis journey. Shorter courts, nets, racquets and soft low-bouncing balls all feature in this first Blue stage of the LTA Mini Tennis programme planned around fun activities to encourage balance, co-ordination, agility, movement and hand-eye co-ordination.

Red, Orange and Green levels all follow for Minis up to the age of 11. The slower balls help children serve, rally and score more easily as well as learning tennis specific movement and co-ordination skills. Tie-break scoring is used for short matches and players are encouraged to take part in fun competitions both in teams and as indivudals. By the time they reach the Green level play is on a full court and with a faster ball.

Our junior coaching programme (ages 11-18) continues on from the Mini programme above. A new level Yellow is introduced with a professional ball and full-size court. The children will explore different game styles and start to find their own which will evolve through well-rounded motor skills development whilst improving their physical capacities.

Dependent on the number of junior members and their ages we are able to field teams to play against other local clubs. In 2003 HTC surpassed all expectations when the boys U17 team became national champions in the UK National Junior Club league and the girls U15 came 4th nationally.

School Provision:

  • After-School/Lunch-Time Clubs have been a feature at HTC for over 20 years. We work in conjunction with the schools to provide these very popular sessions. They can vary from term to term and course enrolment is through the main coaching page. We offer collection from HCJS at 3.30pm and drop-off at WASPS at 4.30pm to help parents on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • As part of the three Haddenham village schools' PE curriculum provision HTC pays for Blaise to support the PE staff with tennis-related skills sessions for different year groups, at each school, each term. Contributions to HTC from the Haddenham Beer Festival Trust and the Haddenham Parish Council help support this initiative.

Junior Tennis Camps:

Mini/Junior Tennis Camps at HTC are a key feature of the school holidays. Planned in line with the village school term dates we attract children from a wide area for fun-filled, ball and racquet skill activities. They run from 10am-3pm Monday to Friday during the school holidays. Your child/children can attend mornings or afternoons or for a full day. Snacks and lunch are not provided.

We offer discount for members and there is also a sibling discount for families.

We have use of the pavilion as a wet weather contingency but do ask that children bring warm/waterproof clothing with them as we aim to be outside as much as possible.

Booking early is essential and dates are set in conjunction with the three Haddenham schools' term dates. Enrolment will open a term in advance.

HTC Development Squads:

In Autumn 2021 we were delighted to launch our Minis Development Squad which is aligned with the Bucks County Aspirantes programme.  Invitations  are made to mini members at any time during the year when potential is noticed. Training is on Saturday afternoons and we have Blue, Red, Orange & Green groups (determined by YOB's); we move inside during the winter months for the youngest age group. The programme continues into the summer term with opportunities to play competitive and fun events against other local clubs as well as county events. If you wish to know more about the programme please contact Club Head Coach Blaise on 07490 960402  or Junior Organiser Julie Burton on 07557 522675.
