Hinckley Hawks Successful Summer

Hinckley Hawks Juniors – Season Review Summer 2019

Running from April to early July, the 2019 Summer season has been a very successful one for our Junior Hawks. Nearly forty players played in eight teams, from eight and under mini reds, mini oranges, greens through to our fourteen and unders.

Our mini red and mini orange teams played their matches at the Dan Maskell Tennis Centre in Loughborough and Leicester Grammar School. There were many amazing performances, with a number of our youngsters not only playing their first competitive matches, but notching some awesome wins too. There were lots of great games across allof the match days. Our 8U mini red team came out winners in Division 2, after some epic battles, with eight players contributing to our first, but not our last trophy of the season. There were many performances of note, including Noel who won 11 matches, and Ella May, who won nearly all of her mini red and mini orange matches.

The 10u mixed green team came a very creditable 4th in their division, but fought a number of very close matches, and could easily have finished a lot higher if luck had gone their way. Special mention to Kavin, who won all his matches, and Woody who won seven out of eight.

The Hawks older age groups showed some real promise this Summer. The 12U and 14U boys finished second in their respective divisions. The fight for the 12U boys Division 1 title 12U would come down to the match versus Ashby, which the boys lost but there were a number of great games. To highlight the quality of play, seven of the boys across both teams were recently capped county players. Special mention here to Alex and Josh who won ten and nine matches respectively across the 12s and 14s teams.

The highlight of the older age groups though was undoubtedlythe 12u girls. Forming an awesome team, Bryony and Emily won all of their games, and finished the season unbeaten, winning division 3. Although short on numbers in our older girl’s age groups, the girls demonstrated we are not short of talent.

A big thank you to all of players, the team captains, parents and families who have made this super season possible. It takes a lot of organising behind the scenes, and without their support and hard work, none of the matches would be possible. Most of all though, a huge thank you, to all of our junior players who have contributed to this successful season. They have shown great skill, team work, attitude and sportsmanship.  I am really looking forward to seeing what our players can achieve in the future.
