Job description for committee role – Team Captain

 

Introduction

The purpose of this role is to oversee one of the club’s teams. The team captain will be an integral part of the Club’s committee.  In particular, the club wants all members to progress, one strand of which is to provide opportunities to any member who is interested in playing in matches, so the team captains should work with the committee to help identify how we can achieve this. 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the running of one of the Keswick Tennis Club’s teams
  • Liaise with the appropriate contact at other clubs to ensure that the team’s fixtures are fulfilled according to the timetable set out by the league
  • At the start of each season work with the captains of the other Keswick teams to agree appropriate squads of players for each team
  • During the season consider if any new member should be part of one of the team squads and work with the other captains to agree which would be appropriate
  • Select players for each match from the agreed squad.  Liaise with the other Keswick captains if any issues arise
  • Ensure appropriate courts have been booked for home matches
  • For home matches ensure new balls are provided, net heights are checked and a match scorecard is available – delegating where appropriate
  • On match days, where appropriate, liaise with the opposing captain to confirm the match is going ahead and keep the players informed of any changes
  • Send the results of each of the team’s matches to the league coordinator in accordance with the timescales and format set out by the league
  • Provide regular scores and brief reports on the team’s matches to our website manager for uploading to our website
  • Where matches are postponed agree alternative dates with the opposing captain
  • Be an integral member of the club’s committee and attend committee meetings
