The season has officially started, and we have BIG NEWS......

Whitehaven Community Tennis Club has moved to a new venue at St Benedicts Catholic High School (Campus Whitehaven).

During the off season, we have been working hard exploring ways in which we can build on the successful season the club had last year. The club ended last season in a strong position after increasing our membership, restarting our adult and junior coaching provision and the success with our Mens 2 and Mixed 1 teams topping their respective divisions in the West Cumbria Tennis League last season. Our aim, as a committee, is always to grow the club by increasing our membership and participation in tennis and we feel that moving to St Benedicts Catholic High School (Campus Whitehaven) will enable us to do this.

This decision was not taken lightly and there were many factors which influenced our decision. The Club has been based at The Whitehaven Academy for the past 3 years and we have been in a very fortunate position of not having any rental costs for many years as a club, however moving forward this will change due to the way schools now hire out their facilities. The club thanks Whitehaven Academy for allowing us the use of their courts over the last 3 years as without them we don't know if the club would still be around today.

The club will have access to 4 tennis courts, which are in good condition, as opposed to 3 courts at The Whitehaven Academy. Ultimately, our aim is to change the club into a 12-month club within the next couple of years, where we can play all year round and we feel there is greater scope for this at Campus Whitehaven. We feel that these changes are a positive thing for the club moving forward and to secure the future of our tennis club.

The new season started at the beginning of April and there are still lots to look forward too. For the first time, we will have our own club coach and there will be coaching programmes for adults and juniors, as well as monthly cardio tennis sessions for those wanting to keep fit and weekly adult social sessions for members to attend. The West Cumbria Tennis League matches started in April, for those of you looking for competitive play and we will also be holding monthly in club tournaments, possibility of hosting an Open Tournament for players from all clubs to enter along with hosting junior tournament too, along with some friendly junior games as well within the area. 

Our website has been updated with new season information and will continue to do so throughout the season, as will our Facebook page – help us spread the word by giving us a like and a share if you haven’t already and let people know that Whitehaven still have an active and now growing tennis club!
