MEDBOURNE TENNIS CLUB NOVEMBER 2017 NEWSLETTER

Winter is upon us but our club remains active.

I am delighted that we have welcomed 3 new members in the last couple of months.

CLUB NIGHTS / MORNINGS

This week is the last Club Night at which a committee member will definitely be present. However, Thursday evenings are still designated as Club nights through the year and balls will be available in the light cupboard for use by members during these sessions. Please however respect the fact that the balls in that cupboard [generally directly from match use] are ONLY for use in Club Sessions – not for private play.

COACHING

Both adult and junior coaching continue with James and Paul. Please find full details on the website.

LEAGUE TENNIS

Generally the summer league teams did well, with none finishing lower than 4th in their respective leagues. Well done to everyone whom participated and a big thank you to the Captains on what can sometimes be a time consuming and frustrating job.

FRIENDLY MATCHES

Once again our annual mixed friendly against Market Harborough was enjoyed by both teams and I am pleased to report that we won. Next year I hope that more of these matches can be arranged as they are well liked.

TOURNAMENTS

The Ladies American doubles tournament on 6th October went very well with £90.00 raised for Blood Bikers. Thank you to Sue Gardener for organising yet another great tennis event.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

The Chairman’s Music Evening on October 7th featuring Janette Monroe was a great success with 65 people attending – we made a small profit of £40. Thank you to Emma and Charlie for helping with the bar.

The Fish and Chip Quiz on 17th November is sold out with 10 teams of 6 competing

WIMBLEDON TICKETS

Please remember to opt into the Wimbledon ballot. The more of our members that do this, the more tickets our Club is allocated.

AGM

The AGM takes place in the Clubhouse on 23rd January at 7.30pm.

Emma Jefferson and I will both be leaving the Committee after 4 years. We feel privileged to have been allowed to work on behalf of the members for such a lengthy period during which there have been many changes. We both believe that the Club is in great shape and ready to be taken forward by new blood. We will of course both remain as active members of the Club

As a result the Club will need to appoint a new Chairman and Treasurer at the next AGM PLUS at least 3 further new committee members.

Nomination forms for the new committee will go out in December.

Please think about joining either in one of the two vacant positions or as a Committee Member. The work is not onerous, the club is running smoothly but improvements can always be made.

We do have another Committee Meeting prior to the AGM when I will send out my last newsletter and I look forward to seeing as many of you at the AGM as can make it.
