On a blustery weekend, the U14 boys team travelled to Royal Wooten Basset, keen to get stuck in.
It was a tough first morning, facing a strong Cornwall team, quickly finding ourselves out of the tie after the singles, however, the boys bounced back brilliantly, with each player lifting their performance in the afternoon against Wiltshire needing just one of the doubles to end the day with a win and a loss.
On Sunday, overall winners Suffolk put on a strong display to overpower each team in the division and so found ourselves fighting for third place facing the Channel Islands. After initially going 0-2 down, the boys battled their way back into the tie, winning the singles and both doubles to take the win and secure third place.
It was brilliant to see how well each member of the team organised themselves across the weekend, representing Somerset with pride and exhibiting exemplary sportsmanship and behaviour across the competition. I was particularly impressed with the teams off-court support, being present for one another when not physically playing. The weekend was rounded off of on terrific high, with an entertaining 1st pair doubles win by Faris and Jathya.
