Nell Wells, one of our longest standing members who joined the club in 1964, has decided to hang up her racquet and retire from the courts, at the wonderful age of 95 years.
George, Nell’s husband was a keen player, so Nell decided to ‘give it a go’. She was an instant success on the court and over the years her serve never lost pace and her inside out backhand volley fooled the best players.
Over the years Nell has been our gardener, tending all the beds and pots, unlocked the club, run social tennis, produced club teas, encouraged the juniors and captained and played in the Surrey teams. She was the club secretary for many years with speedy shorthand and great typing skills.
MPLTC owe Nell a very big thank you for her endless contributions to the club over many years. We look forward to seeing Nell at the club, even without a racquet and wish her a very happy birthday.
