CLUB RULES

 

RULES

  1. NAME

 

The Club shall be called Thurlow Tennis Club.

 

  1. COMMITTEE

 

The Committee shall be elected each year at the Annual General Meeting and shall consist of:-

 

  1. Chairman
  2. Hon. Secretary
  3. Hon. Treasurer
  4. Not more than five other members.

The Committee shall hold office until the next Annual General Meeting and shall be eligible for re-election.  Nominations signed by the Proposer and Seconder must be received by the Hon. Secretary before or at the Annual General Meeting.

  1. MANAGEMENT

 

The affairs of the Club shall be managed by the Committee, three members of whom shall form a quorum who shall have power, inter alia, to fill a vacancy, to appoint a sub-Committee of any members of the Club, to make regulations, to suspend or exclude members, to suspend entrance fees, to decide the dates of the opening and closing of the Season and hours of play, to incur expenditure on the maintenance of the ground and equipment, and to make an annual payment for the Thurlow Sports and Social Club.

 

It shall also be the duty of the Committee, or any one of its members delegated by them, to enrol new members.

 

  1. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

 

The Annual General Meeting shall be held during March or April each year.  Seven days’ notice shall be given to all members.  The Committee shall present a Report and Statement of Account certified by an Auditor appointed annually.

 

Any proposed alterations to the Rules of the Club must be sent in writing, signed by not less than four playing members, before 1st March to the Hon. Secretary, who shall include the same in the notice convening the meeting.  A Rule may be changed by a majority vote at the Annual General Meeting.

 

  1. SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

 

A Special General Meeting shall be called by the Hon. Secretary at the request of the Committee or at least six members of the Club.  Seven days’ notice of such meetings is to be given to all members of the Club, stating the purpose for which the meeting is called.  The meeting shall be strictly limited to this purpose.

 

 

  1. ELECTION OF MEMBERS

 

New members shall be elected by a simple majority vote of the Committee.  All applications shall be addressed to the Hon. Secretary.

 

  1. SUBSCRIPTIONS AND FEES

 

The Annual Subscriptions fees, which will be fixed at each Annual General Meeting, are laid down in the Appendix and are payable when notified to the Hon. Treasurer.

 

There shall be three levels of membership:-

 

  1. Senior – aged 18 and over.
  2. Junior – under age 18.
  3. Family – two adults and children.

Family members only may introduce occasional visitors.  The name of the visitor must be entered in the book before proceeding to play.  No visitors are permitted unless accompanied by a member, and the same visitor may play at the Club a maximum of three times in any one season.

 

  1. EXPULSION OF MEMBERS

 

All members shall be bound by the Rules and Regulations and any member contravening such rules or who, in the opinion of the Committee, behaves in a manner prejudicial to the success of the Club, may be suspended or expelled by the Committee.  Not less than seven days’ notice will be given and an opportunity to be heard in explanation of defence.  Members so suspended or expelled shall have no claim to the return of any portion of their subscriptions and shall not be eligible for re-election.

 

  1. DISPUTES

 

In the event of a dispute of any kind, the decision of a member of the Committee shall be final.

 

  1. FOOTWEAR, RACQUETS AND BALLS

 

Players shall provide their own racquets and balls and shall only play in non-marking training shoes.

 

  1. LAWS OF THE GAME

 

The Laws of the Game shall be those of the Lawn Tennis Association.

 

  1. BOOKING OF THE COURT

 

A game of doubles or singles may only occupy the court for one hour at a time if other members are waiting to play or have booked to play.  All games must be booked beforehand in the book provided on the court.  The maximum time for a session is one hour and this may be exceeded only if no-one is waiting to play. 

 

 

It is to be understood that members of a singles game or doubles game are not permitted to book the court for consecutive hours in their individual names.  When booking the court, the names of both players in the case of singles and all four players in the case of doubles, must be entered and the time of start of play before play starts.  All bookings must be on the hour.  No booking made more than 7 days in advance is valid and members may only book for one session at a time.

 

  1. RULES AND COMBINATION LOCK

 

Each member will be given a copy of the Rules and the number to the combination lock to the court on payment of the appropriate subscription.  Members must ensure that the combination lock is placed in the gate and “scrambled” when the court is vacated.  The number shall not be passed on to non-members.
