Contrasting fortunes for Charnwood First Teams

There were contrasting fortunes for Charnwood's men's and women's first teams respectively, as the 2023 Winter League season approaches its conclusion.

Charnwood women' first team won their latest match to clinch their third win of the season in the Women's Premier Division, and move up to fourth in the league.

Taking on Leicesteshire B at home, the Charnwood quartet took the win by 6 sets to 2.

Hannah Kendrick Holmes and Bea Cooper won one of their two doubles matches by 2 sets to 0, while Holly Cheeseman and Emily Rodbourne played to their usual high standards winning all four of their sets.

The men's side weren't quite able to match the women's achievement, ending up on the opposite side of a 6 sets to 2 scoreline.

Making the short trip along Forest Road to take on local rivals Loughborough, captain Chris Cottrell and 2023 club singles champion Chris Mears came through their opening match in straight sets.

But the Charnwood duo lost two close sets against Loughborough's first pair in the second set of rubbers, while Wayne Butcher and Dave Foster were also downed in straight sets.
