Club Singles Tennis Ladders
Eligibility
The Mens and Ladies Singles Ladders (see The Ladder Rules below) are open to members of Fernhurst Tennis Club from age 16 upwards. The ladders will run through the Summer to late September.
Using Playwaze (Website or App)
FTC uses the Playwaze website and App* to administer our Ladders. We recommend you download the Playwaze App* from the Apple or Google Stores.
* Unfortunately, Ladder functionality will not be available on the App until September 2026.
To Join a Ladder
To register and join a ladder you simply open a Playwaze account via the Playwaze website or on the App*) with your email address (the same one as you use for your FTC account), then search for the Fernhurst Tennis Club 'Community' and apply to join it; then select the appropriate ladder.
To Issue a Challenge
- Log In: Access the ladder through FTC's Playwaze community portal (or via the App*)
- View the Ladder: Go to the "Ladder" tab to see the current rankings.
- Identify Eligible Opponents: These are typically highlighted, while those out of range are greyed out.
- Send the Challenge: Click on the player you wish to play and press the "Challenge" button.
- Coordinate: Both players will receive an automated email and/or App notification once a challenge is sent. You must then arrange a mutually agreeable time and location to play consistent with the Ladder Rules.
Ladder Rules
A ladder is a fun & flexible competition format where players move up or down the “ladder” based on their match results.
- Players are randomly allocated their initial places and then compete to climb higher through challenges and wins.
- At the start of the ladder everyone has 3 unrestricted challenges. i.e. you can challenge anyone on the ladder. Otherwise you can challenge up to 3 places above your current position.
- These challenges cannot be declined (except for holiday absence or temporary sickness) and you need to agree a date/time to play.
- A player who is challenged must agree to a match with the challenger no later than two weeks after the challenge has been made unless:
- The challenged player already has 2 other matches to play
- The challenged player is unable to play due to temporary injury, holiday etc.
- The two players cannot mutally agree on a date and time for a match.
- The challenger is responsible for providing new (or nearly new) tennis balls for the match.
- Matches are to be played within one hour over a single long 'set'. The winner being the first to 8 games (by 2 clear games). If you reach 7-7 in games then play a tie-break (first to 7 points, by 2 clear points).
- If the lower-placed player wins the match, they take the place of their higher-placed opponent in the ladder and the loser (and any others above challenger) drops down one place. If the lower-placed player loses, then there is no change in positions for either player but the loser may not challenge the same person again without challenging someone else first.
- The winner must add results to Playwaze no later than 24 hours after the match. You can either use the Playwaze website or the Playwaze App.
- Players will be automatically demoted by 2 places after 30 days of inactivity (excluding the leading player) so we recommend trying to play regularly!
- New players can join the ladder throughout the season.
Enjoy your tennis and have fun!
