Club update 20th June 2020
We now have all three courts available for play, a new online court booking system in operation and the toilet facilities in the clubhouse available for use, with a cleaning regime to keep hygiene under control.
Single and doubles play is allowed and players can come from different households. A new set of corona virus rules, based on LTA guidelines to help keep us all safe, has been issued. These will be updated as things change, which they undoubtedly will.
Coaching, as long as there are no more than 6 people (inc. the coach) on a court at any one time is now permitted. Dave Ford has carried out over 30 sessions to date. Several members have taken advantage of 1:1 coaching through our arrangements with Ben Minski the head coach at Oadby. Unfortunately we are not yet able to restart the junior coaching on Saturday mornings, but will do so as soon as this is feasible.
We are looking into investing in some additional coaching kit so watch this space. In the meantime talk to Dave about your coaching needs. davidford2@sky.com .
We now have our new website - https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/HoughtonTennisClub - and our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/houghtontennis - up and running.
The club finances are sound and there is plenty of tennis being played and we still have plenty of court capacity. We have welcomed 30 new members so far of all ages and abilities, with both newcomers to the village as well as others who have lived here for some time. This is great for both the short and long term prospects for the club. On the social side we are not currently able to restart the monthly wine nights nor can we run any fun tennis events yet. Rest assured that as soon as we can, we will!
Finally no sign yet of if and when league tennis competitions might commence. We understand that Leicestershire League competitions have been suspended until July 27th. Leicestershire Tennis is still hopeful of staging some competitions in some form, but we shall have to see.
