Frequently Asked Questions

When are the courts open?

The courts are open for public Pay & Play bookings every day from 8am – 10pm.

Courts may occasionally be booked for coaching activities or events.

Do I have to be a resident of Penrith to play?

No, everyone is welcome.

If I only want to play occasionally, what can I do?

We offer Pay & Play tennis charged at £6 per court per hour. Pay & Play bookings that require flood lighting will be charged an additional £2 per hour.

Pay & Play bookings are for a minimum duration of one-hour and a maximum of 2-hours. You may make one court booking a day and up to three Pay & Play bookings per week.

Pay & Play bookings can be made up to a fortnight in advance and can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance of a scheduled booking.

Simply register on Clubspark, book, and pay for your court.

It is also possible to book a court at the park games kiosk during its seasonal opening hours 10am-7pm, 7 days a week from Friday 29th March until the end of September 2024 . Cash only.

Can I hire tennis rackets and balls?

Yes. Rackets and balls for personal use are available for hire from the park games kiosk beside the courts (£1 per hour for 1 racket and 2 balls). The kiosk is open from 10am-7pm, 7 days a week from Friday 29th March until the end of September 2024. CASH ONLY

Can I buy an annual pass?

Westmorland and Furness Council are working in partnership with Penrith Tennis Club, which offers  annual memberships that allow free court bookings (subject to floodlighting charges). Please see the membership tab.

Once I have booked my court, how do I get access?

Once you have booked your court, you will receive a booking confirmation email.

Your booking confirmation will include a six-digit gate code (remember you must include the Asterix *) which you can then enter on the keypad at the gate. It is always useful to have your booking confirmation handy for inspection purposes.

I haven’t received confirmation of my booking or my gate access code. What should I do?

The gate access code is in your confirmation email. Please check the junk folder of the email account provided when you signed up.

Alternatively, please log into your ClubSpark account and check your bookings where you will see the details of your booking, alongside the gate access code.

If you still cannot find your confirmation email or gate access code, email communities.team@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk in advance of your booking (email address monitored during office hours).

What do I do if my gate code doesn't work?

Double-check that you are using the correct gate code for the court and booking. Remember to include the Asterix * before the six-digit number. If the code you are entering is correct, please check your booking confirmation for further advice.

If you have followed all these steps and are still unable to open the gate, please seek assistance from the games kiosk during its opening hours or email communities.team@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk for further advice (email address monitored during office hours).

How do I cancel a booking?

Visit our Book A Court page to cancel.

For a refund or transfer, cancellations must be made 24 hours before the time of the court booking.

For Pay & Play a refund will be applied to the card used at the time of booking (it may take up to 10 working days for this refund to show on the payment method). No cash refunds will be given.

If I see damage to the courts, who should I tell?

To report any damage to the courts, please contact Westmorland and Furness Council on 0300 373 3300 or email contracts@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk
