Disability & Inclusive Tennis at Syston Northfields
At Syston Northfields Tennis Club, we believe tennis should be accessible, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone — regardless of age, ability, background or experience.
Inclusion isn’t something we “offer” as an extra; it’s part of who we are as a club. We aim to create an environment where every person feels respected, supported and able to take part in a way that works for them.
A Club for Everyone
We understand that everyone’s needs, goals and experiences are different. Some people come to tennis to be active, some for social connection, some for confidence, and others simply for fun.
Our approach is flexible, friendly and person-centred. We focus on:
• Creating a safe and welcoming environment
• Encouraging participation at every level
• Supporting confidence and enjoyment
• Removing unnecessary barriers
• Treating everyone with dignity and respect
Whether someone is new to tennis, returning after time away, managing a disability, or just looking for a relaxed way to be active, we want them to feel they belong here.
Walking Tennis – Free Weekly Session
We currently offer a free weekly Walking Tennis session every Friday, open to both members and non-members.
Walking Tennis is a brilliant way to stay active, social and engaged with the game in a relaxed and supportive environment. It’s ideal for:
• Players with mobility challenges
• Those returning after injury or illness
• Older players
• Anyone wanting a gentler way to play
• People who prefer a slower-paced, social session
No experience is needed — just come along and enjoy moving, playing and connecting with others.
Our Inclusive Approach
We aim to make tennis as accessible as possible and are always open to adapting sessions, formats and experiences to support individual needs.
This might include:
• Flexible session structures
• Modified rules or equipment
• Slower-paced options
• Supportive introductions for new players
• Extra time and reassurance where needed
If you or someone you care for has specific requirements, we encourage you to get in touch. We’re always happy to listen, learn and do what we can to help.
Working Together
We know that inclusion works best when people feel comfortable communicating openly. If there’s something we can do to make your experience better, we want to hear about it.
Tennis should feel positive, empowering and enjoyable — and we’re committed to doing everything we can to make that a reality.
