Want to improve your tennis? You can meet new people, power up your game and compete at a park court near you with Barclays Local Tennis Leagues. Over 200 mixed singles and doubles leagues are taking place at local parks and public courts across the nation all year round for adults over the age of 18, and a Beginner League has now been launched at Penrith Castle Park.
Barclays Local Tennis Leagues are open to adults 18+, who are interested in meeting players of a similar standard to play fun tennis matches. Scoring formats are flexible to suit your ability and schedule. The sign-up process will help us determine your ability, to ensure we match you with other beginners.

How to express an interest
1. Download the app via the relevant app store by searching 'Barclays Local Tennis
Leagues' or using this link https://lta.page.link/app
2. Log in/create an account
3. Complete a questionnaire to check you meet the criteria for the beginner league
4. Search and choose Penrith Castle Park Beginner League
5. Submit your expression of interest i.e. ‘Join the draw’
6. We will be in touch when we have matched you with other beginners at your park
You’ll be added to a group with other players of your standard so you can play friendly, competitive matches!

Why would I sign up to a beginner league and not the regular Local Tennis League?
- Guaranteed to play other beginners like you
- More local, less travel, play with others at your park site
- More flexible scoring format for those new to competing
- Less commitment, matches played over a few weeks, and sign-up price reflects this
- This may evolve into a regular Local Tennis League for Penrith Castle Park depending on volume of take up and feedback from participants
How do you know I am a beginner, and you will match me with other beginners?
- Upon creating a free LTA account, you will be issued an ITF World Tennis Number. If your
number sits between 30-40.9, you can join a beginner league
I believe I am a beginner but the app says I am not eligible to enter the league?
- Your ITF World Tennis Number may be outside the eligible range of 30-40.9. You can check
your ITF World Tennis Number within the ‘Profile’ section of the Local Tennis League app.

Once I express an interest, when will the league start?
- As soon as we have c15 local beginners who have expressed an interest in your local
league, you will be emailed with the sign-up link and league start date.
Why have you introduced a beginner league at my park?
- We want to test whether a more local, venue level league where beginners are guaranteed
to play against other beginners helps to engage more park players into recreational
competition
- If you feel you can already compete above Beginner standard then you may want to join Penrith Tennis Club. Membership info can be found here. (Beginners also welcome!)
I can't see the beginner league at my park on the app?
- Please ensure you have updated your app so that you are using the most recent version,
this can be done in your App/Play Store
- There are not beginner leagues at every park across England, Scotland and Wales,
however if you would like to see a beginner league introduced at a different park site, please
express your interest to your park operator or the LTA
The app is asking me to join the draw / a waiting list, does this mean the league is full?
- No, this is how we are gathering expressions of interest for all beginner leagues, you will be
notified when we have matched you with beginners in your league
