1. WHAT DO THEY DO?

Q. What do they do?

A. During the term, junior players learn tennis strokes, technique, and tactics using the LTA games-based coaching approach.

Lessons are designed to help children develop skills while having fun and building confidence on the court.

Q.  What do the group lessons consist of?

 

A. Each lesson usually includes:

  • A warm-up
  • Learning or practising a new shot or technique
  • Match play or competitions
  • Fun tennis games

All sessions are adapted to the age group and level of the players.

2. THE RIGHT CLASS FOR MY CHILD

Q. How can I know which class the right one for my child?

Youth Blue- Tennis lessons for ages 3-6

Youth Red- Tennis lessons for ages 6-8

Youth Orange- Tennis lessons for ages 8-10

Youth Green- Tennis lessons for 9-11

Yellow Youth -Tennis lessons for 11+

3. BEST AGE TO START TENNIS

Q. What age is the best to star tennis?

A. Between 3 and 4

Q - How will I know if myself or my child needs to move to the next level/group?

A.  Our programme is primarily age-based, but coaches will also assess each player’s ability.

If a player is ready to move to a higher group, the coach will inform Head Coach Sebastien, and parents will be notified.

4. HOW MANY PLAYERS PER GROUP 

Q. How many players in a group?

A. We always follow the LTA guidelines for player ratios, which varies slightly according to the age group. This is usually:

- one coach to 4-6 players until 6 years-old

 -1 coach to 8 players for Mini Red, Orange and Green

- 1 coach for 8 to 12 players for teens and adults

We normally follow the LTA guidelines for players ratio. We normally have a Senior LTA Level 3 coach or above and 2 or 3 LTA level 1 or 2 assistants every 8 players.

5. DOES MY CHILD HAVE TOBE A MEMBER TO JOIN THE TENNIS PROGRAMME?

Q. Does my child have to be a member of Dulwich Tennis Club to join the term?

No. Our junior tennis programme is open to both members and non-members.

However, we recommend Junior DLTC Membership, which offers:

  • Discounts on tennis programmes
  • Discounts on holiday camps
  • Discounts on private lessons
  • Access to competitions

6. WHO ARE OUR COACHES ?

Q. Who are our team of coaches?

A. All coaches are LTA-qualified Level 3 or above, and they:

  • Hold a valid DBS check
  • Have first aid certification
  • Have many years of experience coaching children of all ages and abilities

7. CANCELLATIONS AND BAD WEATHER ( MISSING  A CLASS)

Q. Bad weather during a lesson

If the courts become unplayable due to weather, sessions may continue with tennis-specific fitness exercises, indoor activities, or table tennis inside the clubhouse or squash courts.

Q. What happens if I cancel the term?

  • If you cancel less than one week before the term begins, a 20% cancellation fee will apply.
  • If you cancel after the course has started, no refund will be issued, unless agreed with the Head Coach.
  • PLEASE NOTE * MISSING A CLASS*

If a child misses a session due to appointments, illness, parties, school trips, or holidays, refunds or replacement lessons cannot be offered.

Please note that all sessions are planned in advance according to LTA player-to-coach ratio guidelines, which means additional players cannot be added to missed sessions.

 

 

 

8. CODE OF CONDUCT

At Dulwich LTC our players are expected to respect their coaches and fellow tennis players. Under any circumstance bullying or any kind of abuse will be accepted.

Our players also are expected to keep the club premises tidy and look after the equipment they use as well as ensure the best possible attendance and punctuality.

In the event of bad behaviour during a lesson, parents will receive an email/ phone call from head coach Sebastien with further explanation.  If behaviour does not improve following two warnings the player will no longer be able to train at the club.

9. HOW LONG IS A SESSION?

Q. How long is a session?

A. A lesson lasts between 45 minutes for the younger players to 60-90 minutes for older players.

10. HOW LONG IS A TERM ?

Q. How long is a term?

A. The term usually last between 11 or 12 weeks.

11. DOES MY JUNIOR PLAYER HAVE LESSONS DURING HALF TERM?

Q. Does my junior player have lesson during half term?

A. No, during have term we run holiday tennis camps. To get more information about our camps please click here

12. DO YOU ACCEPT CHILDCARE VOUCHERS?

Q. Do you accept Childcare Vouchers?

A. No. During half term we run holiday tennis camps instead.

13. WHAT DOES MY JUNIOR PLAYER NEED TO WEAR?

Q. What does my junior player need to wear?

A. Please ensure your child wears comfortable clothing and shoes to play. Additionally, appropriate clothes depending on the weather: caps, shorts, sunblock during the hot months and waterproof jackets and warm clothes during the cold months.

14. WHAT DOES MY JUNIOR PLAYER NEED TO BRING?

Q. What does my child need to bring?

A. Please ensure your child wears comfortable sports clothing and tennis shoes.

Depending on the weather:

  • Hot weather: caps, shorts, sunscreen
  • Cold or wet weather: warm clothing and waterproof jackets
