Court Etiquette

To help everyone enjoy their tennis, whether new to the game or a veteran, we hope that in addition to the rules, members comply with “tennis etiquette”:

  • Talk quietly if you are near to courts that are in use
  • Do not walk behind players during an active point. Wait until the point/game has finished
  • Ensure any equipment that you take onto court and are not using (spare rackets/bags) is out of the way and does not cause a tripping hazard
  • Spin (rough/smooth or alternative) to determine who has choice of serving first or choosing ends.
  • When returning balls to other courts, please wait until their point has finished.
  • Be positive and offer encouragement to your partner/opponent rather than criticism
  • The server should keep score and call the score after each point
  • Always respect the line call of your opponent
  • If you disagree with a line call, offer a let, i.e. you replay the point (from first serve). If you are unsure as to whether your opponent’s shot was in or out, call in
  • Mobile phones should not be taken onto court, or if so should be on silent.
