MTC 2020 Club Tournament

Dear Member
The Club would really like to run a Club Tournament this year.
With the absence of matches and the restrictions on play, we hope that many of you will enjoy the opportunity to play some competitive tennis as well as perhaps with or against some different people.

The tournament will run from the middle of July and we hope to hold a Finals Day over the weekend of the 12thSeptember.  Of course, given the current situation, all dates and plans are subject to change.  We’d really love to make the ‘Finals Day’ a club event but this will depend the current social distancing restrictions.

We would like to run the following events:

  • Men’s open singles
  • Men’s open doubles (chose or have a partner allocated)
  • Men’s handicapped doubles (a partner will be allocated)
  • Women’s open singles
  • Women’s open doubles (chose or have a partner allocated)
  • Women’s handicapped doubles (a partner will be allocated)
  • Mixed handicapped doubles (a partner will be allocated)
  • Vets mixed (over 60) handicapped (a partner will be allocated)

We intend to run all events as either traditional knock-out ‘Wimbledon-style’ or ‘round-robin’ but our choice will depend on the number of entrants received for each.
All seedings, pairings and handicappings will be decided by the tournament committee.
This year, there will be no entrance fee.
Please follow all current COVID-19 access and social distancing guidelines.
Players to provide their own balls, the club will provide balls for the finals.
The format of each event, rules and play-by dates will be confirmed once the registration period has closed.

Closing date for entries is Saturday 11th July

We hope that lots of you will be enthusiastic about the idea of holding a club tournament this year and will give it your full support.

Please contact Janet Robinson (Chair of the Tournament Committee) if you have any questions (0798 01 88831/ j.e.robinson61@btinternet.com).
Let's try and make this a success as we'd love to run it as an annual event in the future but only if we have enough support from members.
