Popup League kicks off

In place of the usual league matches that take place each summer, the Pop-up League has begun its second, and hopefully last, season, with Morpeth fielding a number of teams in the stripped-down format that Pop-up League matches offer.

Going into friendly battle are two ladies' teams, three men's teams, and two mixed teams in the all-age category, and also one ladies' team, two men's teams and one mixed team in the over-55 category.

Only a handful of fixtures have been played so far.  The over-55 men's 2nd team lost narrowly 5 sets to 3 (39 games to 35) at home to Cullercoats 1.  A similar fate befell the ladies' 1st team, who lost 5 sets to 3 (37 games to 30) at home to Alnwick.  The men's 3rd team had an unfortunate loss at Forest Hall, in which one of opposition team injured themselves during the first rubber, and subsequent rubbers involving this player and his partner were annulled.

Matches should now be coming up thick and fast, so there's plenty of time to turn our fortunes around and grab some victories.
