Morpeth Tennis Club

Congratulations to Morpeth 2 Winter League team!  In the final of their section of the league (knockout 5), the visited Cullercoats 2 in the final and came away with a 5 sets to 3 (45 games to 37) victory to become the champions.  Well done Jill, Eleanor, Colin and captain Jake, and also to all the other players who turned up for the team this season.  Trophy presentation was held at the Northumberland Club on Sunday 24th March.

Eric Winton Trophy - Saturday 27th April (12.30pm for a 1pm start): We will be holding the annual Eric Winton Tropy doubles competition on the afternoon of 27th April.  As last year, players will be drawn into pairings and play matches of 24 points on three-point service rotation, so draws are possible.  The onus is on fun, then socialising in the clubhouse afterwards.  £5 entrance fee, payable here.

Outdoor adult Tennis Xpress (Wednesday 10:30-11:30am) and outdoor Saturday (9-11am) junior coaching sessions live to book!

Defibrillator: If anyone collapses at the club, there is a defibrillator just inside the entrance of the clubhouse.  See here for details.

Social & Presentation Evening - Friday 13th October, 7pm onwards: We had an excellent turnout for the second running of the MTC End of Season Social, and hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves.  For details see this news item.

FINALS WEEKEND - 16th & 17th September:  Seven of the ten events that make up the Club Championship took place on finals weekend (and two events, the men's over 55 open doubles and the men's open singles, took place subsequently).  The one event yet to be played is the men's open doubles.  We hope to put this on soon, but this all depends on the availability of the players and the injury situation.  We'll keep you posted.  In the meantime, see this news item for an account of the finals played so far.

President's Day - Sunday 27th August: All the sections of Morpeth Cricket, Hockey and Tennis Club (MCHTC) came together on President's Day for a series of events showcasing the different sections of the club.  The tennis section kicked things off with a coaching session, and this was followed by the official opening of the dugout by club president Janice (known as Jock).  Then came a rain-interrupted tournament, with the pairing of Janet Robinson and Jake Fewell-Williams ending up as champions.  For more details, see this news item.

Dugout Construction: Jonny Rezai and his team of Trevor Herron, Colin Bentham and an additonal cast of seemingly thousands, have been toiling away over the last few weeks to replace our dilapidated old dugout with a smart new structure, with room for more people and much needed storage.  The project is now pretty much complete, so a big thank you to those who helped.  The official opening of the dugout took place on President's Day on 27th August.

Spare Equipment - Rackets and balls have gone missing from the large black case on Court 1 recently.  The stock has now been replenished, but can everyone make sure that they return items to the black case once finished with.  And if anyone has any spare, old rackets, please let us know so that we can add them to the collection.

Locking Up Courts - There have been a number of occasions recently where the gates to the courts, particularly the top courts, have been left open.  Can everyone make a special effort to ensure that if you are the last person to leave either the top courts or bottom courts, you lock the main gate and check that any other gates are locked.  For the top courts this means checking that the combination lock is in place and showing a random combination and that the gate with the handle next to the hockey pitch is locked.  Thanks.

LOST PROPERTY: We've been picking up an increasing amount of clothing, water bottles and other items off the courts lately.  If you think that you have left anything at the club please check the lost property webpage of the MCHTC website.  Here you will be able to claim any piece of property as well as ask the club manager to look out for anything that you may have lost recently.
